“My favorite band in Austin.”
— Alejandro Escovedo
When talking about Barfield, the Tyrant, everything starts with Barfield, the man.
Mike Barfield, the southern gentleman of Texas soul, is one of the most exciting front men on any scene today. Sixty four years old and straight out of a long tradition of gulf coast entertainers, Barfield is a must see live show.. Imagine James Brown meets Johnny Cash fronting a very Texan version of the Clash.
With the release of their latest singles, Barfield and musical partner, guitarist Johnny Moeller (Fabulous Thunderbirds) blend all kinds of rootsy goodness in a way all their own. With a long running, standing room only residency at Austin's famed Continental Club, they have honed a most exciting mix of funk, blues, soul and rock and roll. They have shared the stage with Alejandro Escovedo, Lee Fields, Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings, Angelo Moore, Chuck Prophet, Southern Culture of the Skids, Jimmie Vaughan, Billy Gibbons, and the Reverend Horton Heat. Most recently opened for the Killers at a suprise SXSW show. Billy Gibbons covered their song "Your What's Happenin" on his latest solo album.
